honestly, i dont find anything wrong with that.maybe its about where i come from. if you are refering to "lhai' here...it is part of our rich language. It was and is used to adress people...much like "golaa" a bit moderate one. it is often called baazzaarumathi language by many people. but now it is more like friends language. but that is just in Male'..if we look into islands..many islands in north (haa alifu atoll..a im most familiar with that one) they use it even at kids. for them its just common language.even parents address children using that.and these people (previously known among male' elites as raajjethereians) dominate baazaarumathi..hence it is part of that community too. now it is part of friends community. i dont use it at home though, but my mom use it sometimes (not when she is angry but for fun...she dont find it offensive). however i use it when i am with my friends..especially guys. and that also very close friends. as for girls..most girls even find kaley to be offensive...and kalaa is too romantic..and thibaa is too dhivehivantha...so we have to turn to broken dhivehi...word like 'theena' and meena and mimeehun..are common now..but i would prefer lhai over those..but i dont use em when adressing girls or anyone who dont like it...what i use commonly is golaa..

so..my point here is...lhai is not a bad word. its just offensive for you..and i think our language is the last thing god will be offended about..(i know things like bastard, bitch and things are not good..but this one is different). you should know this one also..in hindi bannana is called keyla..also in kannada language.. but in manipur especially in Nagaland keylaa is the common word for penis.
